If you are ticking off the Horizon Decades playlist and want a quick win, this one is about as friendly as it gets. The task sounds a bit fiddly at first, but it really is just a matter of getting a 1980s car sideways, snapping the shot, and moving on. If you are short on time, or just trying to stack up Forza Horizon 6 Credits without spending the whole evening on one event, this is exactly the sort of challenge that pays off fast.
What the challenge is actually asking for
The goal is simple on paper: photograph a car from the 1980s while it is drifting. That is all. No special landmark, no long stunt chain, no weird hidden trigger. You do not need to milk the photo for points either. The game just wants proof that the car was sliding when the camera opened. Once you know that, the whole thing becomes a very quick pit stop rather than a proper chore.
Picking a car that makes life easier
You can use any eligible 1980s vehicle, so there is no need to overthink it. A lot of players go straight for the 1982 DeLorean because it is easy to remember, and plenty of people already have it sitting in the garage from other seasonal events. If you do not own one, it is still a straightforward buy from the Autoshow. That said, any 80s car will do the job, so if you have a favourite classic that you already trust on corners, use that instead. It is usually better to pick something you know than to chase a "perfect" option that you have barely driven.
Where the drift works best
Honestly, the map choice matters less than most people think. Wide city roads are handy because they give you room to swing the car without clipping a wall straight away, and Tokyo-style streets are a solid pick if you want something neat and predictable. Open roads work too, especially if you prefer fewer cars getting in the way. You just need enough space to break traction and keep the rear end loose for a second or two. A tight bend, a little speed, and some patience usually gets it done.
When you are setting up the run, do not chase some huge smoking slide like you are trying to post a clip online. A small, clean drift is usually enough. Get moving at a moderate pace, turn into the corner, and tap the brakes or use whatever drifting input feels natural to you. If the back end steps out and you can hear the tyres start to sing, that is the moment you are looking for. A lot of players make this harder than it needs to be because they wait for the car to be fully sideways. You really do not need that much.
Taking the photo without missing the moment
The only tricky bit is timing. Once the drift starts, open Photo Mode straight away. On controller, that is usually up on the D-pad. On keyboard, it is often the P key. The game freezes the action as soon as Photo Mode comes up, so if the drift was active in that instant, you are basically done. There is no need to frame a perfect magazine cover shot. Just catch the car in motion, confirm the angle if you want, and save yourself the trouble of doing it again.
A lot of people fail here because they go into Photo Mode too early. If the car is still rolling normally, the challenge may not count. Watch for the skid marks and listen for the tyre noise first. That small cue makes a big difference. If the first try does not register, do not panic. Back out, line up another corner, and go again. It usually takes less than a minute once you get the rhythm.
Final Thoughts
This is one of those playlist tasks that looks a bit more specific than it really is. Pick a proper 1980s car, find a road with enough room, get the rear end out, and hit Photo Mode while the drift is still live. That is the whole trick. If you are already working through seasonal events, it makes sense to knock this out alongside anything else that wants an older car, since you can save time and keep your flow going. A quick challenge like this is also a handy way to keep adding cheap FH6 Credits to your total while you clear the playlist and move on to something a bit more demanding.
